Slow-cooked pork shoulder with smoky BBQ flavors, perfect for sandwiches.
Ingredients
- 2kg pork shoulder
- 30g brown sugar
- 15g paprika
- 10g chili powder
- 5g garlic powder
- 5g onion powder
- 5g salt
- 3g black pepper
- 3g cumin
- 250ml apple cider vinegar
- 125ml ketchup
- 60ml brown sugar
- 15ml Worcestershire sauce
- 5ml liquid smoke
- 8 hamburger buns
- Coleslaw for serving
Steps
- Mix all dry spices for rub in small bowl
- Rub spice mixture all over pork shoulder
- Let pork rest at room temperature 30 minutes
- Preheat oven to 150°C
- Place pork in Dutch oven and cover tightly
- Cook for 5-6 hours until meat shreds easily
- Remove pork and let rest 20 minutes
- Meanwhile, mix vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire, and liquid smoke for sauce
- Shred pork with two forks
- Mix shredded pork with BBQ sauce
- Toast hamburger buns lightly
- Pile pulled pork on buns
- Top with coleslaw and serve
Notes
Low and slow cooking is essential for tender, shreddable meat. Save the cooking juices to add back for moisture.
